Official Standards for Passport & Visa Photography
International standards set by the ICAO (International Civil Aviation Organization) mandate that passport photos maintain strict head ratios. The applicant's face must occupy between 50% and 69% of the total image height from the bottom of the chin to the top of the head.
Biometric Guidelines & Requirements
- US Passport & Diversity Visa: Exactly 2×2 inches (51×51 mm), centered with an off-white or plain white backdrop.
- Schengen Visa & UK Standard: 35×45 mm with the face height measuring between 32 mm and 36 mm.
- Lighting & Expression: Look directly into the camera with both ears visible, neutral expression, mouth closed, and without head coverings (unless religious).
